New support for growing businesses

Ambitious businesses looking to expand may benefit from a new Government programme designed to help promising companies overcome some of the difficulties associated with rapid growth.

Announced on 29 October 2026, Scale UK Connect will provide tailored support to 200 high-growth businesses through a network of regional partners. The programme will offer expert advice, introductions to investors and opportunities to develop commercial relationships with larger businesses and potential overseas customers.

The initiative recognises that growing a successful business involves challenges that extend beyond finding additional customers. Companies expanding rapidly may need substantial investment, more experienced management, improved operational systems and access to specialist advice that would be difficult or expensive to obtain independently.

The programme will operate across the UK, with delivery partners covering areas including Yorkshire, the South West, Scotland, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands. Participating businesses will receive support over a twelve-month period, with the first group expected to begin in February 2027.

Applications are open until January 2027, although places are limited and the programme is intended for businesses with significant growth potential rather than every small enterprise.

For business owners considering expansion, the announcement also highlights the importance of preparing properly before seeking outside investment or entering new markets.

Potential investors and commercial partners will generally expect credible financial forecasts, a clear business strategy and evidence that the organisation can manage increasing demand without compromising profitability or service quality.

Even businesses that do not qualify for the programme may benefit from reviewing their own growth plans and identifying where additional expertise, finance or commercial connections could help them achieve their objectives.
